5.3 FLOW WHICH CONNECTING 2 RESERVOIRS

EXAMPLE 1
Determine the difference level between 2 reservoirs which is connected by single pipe of cast iron for 1 km. Discharge and diameter is given as 0.01 m3/s and 5 cm respectively. 

(   =1.14 x 10-6 m2/s)

EXAMPLE 2
A tanker is to be filled with fuel oil with ρ = 920 kg/m³ and m = 0.045 kg/m.s from an underground reservoir using a 25m long, 4 cm diameter plastic hose with a slightly rounded entrance and two 90º smooth bends.
The capacity of the tanker is 18 m³ and the filling time is 30minutes.
Assuming an overall pump efficiency of 82%, determine power input 
  to the pump.
SOLUTION EXAMPLE 2
The loss coefficient is KL = 0.12 for a slightly-rounded entrance and KL = 0.3 for a 90° smooth bend (flanged). The plastic pipe is smooth and thus ε = 0.
Points 1 & 2 is open to the atmosphere; P1 = P2 = Patm
Velocity at point 1 is zero; V1 = 0.
